"The Impact of Poverty" is a 1-day training. Growing up in poverty can have lasting effects on youth and their families. It’s essential for providers working with foster youth to understand how their socioeconomic upbringing impacts their ability to understand the challenges youth face. Poverty can be a risk factor for a variety of unhealthy and dangerous situations such as mental illness, gang involvement, involvement in the commercial sex industry, etc., so it's imperative that social service providers understand it. The trainers will discuss strategies for more effectively engaging individuals and families in poverty and ways to empower them.
